Race to the Top (RTTT)

The grant for Race to the Top is complex and lengthy.  I will provide links here for you to begin educating yourself about it.  School districts were asked to sign an agreement with the state, and unions were asked to sign also.  What you need to know is that the Orono school district is pursuing the grant without the OEA.  When I looked at all the unanswered questions we had, I could not sign it.  Much of the state requirements talk about things that are part of ATPPS that we negotiate and vote on every year.  It was unclear if we were giving up our right to negotiate ATPPS by signing. 

Dr. Orcutt presented her case for pursuing the grant to the school board, and requested their signature on Monday night (January 11). In their informational packets for that meeting was a statement from the OEA about why we weren’t signing.  That also is included here.  Stop and talk to me, or email me with any questions
